Guillaume Delvaux

Early Morning Delivery

This work is like a treasure hunt – that’s how Guillaume describes his work in early-morning delivery. He has been working at Posti about a year and enjoys discovering new places as well as beautiful sunrises and the independency of the work.
Guillaume Delvaux

Guillaume works in early-morning delivery in Espoo and makes sure that the daily newspapers are there when people wake up in the morning. Depending on his route, he delivers newspapers with a Posti car or a trolley. Guillaume is “an all-rounder”, a person who works in a different delivery route every night. This way he gets to see different areas in Espoo and find new places. Guillaume enjoys his job and often takes extra shifts and routes.

“Posti is a big company with many opportunities. There is always extra work available if you are a hard worker. This way you can also earn more money”, Guillaume tells.

Guillaume feels like he has the whole city for himself when he is working. He tells that in this job one can feel the town very differently as during the daytime; one sees and hears things that are only possible at night. Guillaume’s work is very independent, and he likes it.

“You are a master of your own work! I like to work in a group as well but when you work independently you can work at your own pace - as long as you finish on time”, Guillaume tells.

Even though the work is independent, Guillaume meets colleagues at pick-up points. He says that the atmosphere at work is very good and his colleagues are great. Actually, some of his best friends are also working at Posti. Guillaume likes that they have a diverse community of colleagues at work.

Guillaume says that his recruitment process was super quick and easy. He filled in the application on Posti’s career pages and started to work on the next week. Guillaume worked three first shifts with more experienced colleague and after that he was able to work his first shift independently.

Guillaume says that the first shifts might be a little hard because the work is quite physical but after a week or two your body gets used to it. “It’s like a gym membership without paying for it”, Guillaume laughs.

Guillaume tells of the moment that made him realize the relevance of his work. One of these nights he was delivering a newspaper to elderly couple who live in a house on a small hill. The lady was awake and saw Guillaume, so she started to blink at him and blinked all the way while he was walking to the door. At that moment he realized that his work makes other people happy.

“This job makes me feel that I’m doing something good and useful. I know people are waiting for me and the newspaper I bring to them”, Guillaume says.
